FIELD TRIPS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

These Better Birdwatching events are FREE but some may require park passes, and more details may be listed below. The presenter Joe LaFleur holds degrees in wildlife biology and communications and is the author of Better Birdwatching, a series of DVDs about birds of North America, and also the book Mountain Birds of Teller County. He has been an active birdwatcher for over 30 years and lives in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Ages 5 and up, binoculars suggested for bird walks. In the event of extreme weather like severe rain and/or snow the walk will be cancelled. For more info: joe@betterbirdwatching.com, 719-301-8801.

Better Birdwatching will be at the event selling and signing Mountain Birds Books.
Scouts (boys & girls) and leaders in uniform receive free admission to the DRC. Various activity tables and demonstrations will be set up for you to explore from 9:00am-3:00pm.
Please note-The last entry time to purchase admissions is 30 minutes before closing.

Saturday, March 21, FREE Bird Walk and Program
El Pueblo History Museum, 301 N Union Ave., Pueblo
9:00-10:00 AM
– Guided bird walk for about one mile at the Boettcher Natural Area at Gateway Park. Learn to identify birds by sight and sound and also about the trees and plants where birds live. Meet at Museum.
10:00 AM-11:00 AM– Audiovisual Program. Learn to identify common breeding birds of Pueblo by sight and sound. Meet at Museum.


Saturday, March 28- Bird Walk and Program
9:00-10:00 AM- Manitou Lake Bird Walk, N of Woodland Park on Hwy. 67, meet at park entrance, $11 per vehicle park entrance fee.
Learn to identify birds by sight and sound and also about the trees and plants where birds live.
11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, Birding 301- Grebes to Woodpeckers
Ute Pass Hist. Society, 231 E. Henrietta Ave., Woodland Park.
Learn to identify birds by sight and sound in this FREE audiovisual program. Covers species that are “rare but regular” in Teller County and includes a mix of birds from Grebes to Woodpeckers.


APRIL

Saturday, April 4, FREE Bird Walk and Program
Smokebrush Farm, 328 El Paso Blvd., Manitou Springs
9:00-10:00 AM- Bird Walk
Along Fountain Creek Trail, about one mile. Learn how to identify local birds by sight and sound, and about the plants and trees where birds live. Meet at Smokebrush Farm and follow “Event” signs to parking area. 
10:00-11:00 AM- Audiovisual Program
Learn to identify common summer breeding birds by sight and sound. Meet at Smokebrush Farm. 
In the event of inclement weather, we will skip the birdwalk and go straight to the program.
